Bill,
Ain't it like Nauset! We have a nice run of Reds down here in Spring and Fall following the Mullet runs. Melbourne beach is 28 miles of Nauset look-alike. One or two bars with troughs in between.
The Redfish fight like a Striper and the Snook can be spectacular but, the baby Tarpon are balistic missles. They are usually here about the time the Reds get here but, are moving north. Do they come up as far as you? In the Fall, they, Snook and the Tarpon are mixed in with the Mullet and moving south. We get mostly 30-50 lb. Tarpon but, last Fall there were a dozen or more fish over 75 lbs. and one that from it's measurments would easily go 135. Conjecture here is that with seawater temps rising, the big tarpon are spreading out of their usual range - a little more each year.
This is great flyrod fishing when the wind/surf is not too high. When it is, plugging is great. I've been using some old wood Atoms and Capt.Bills on the big rod-especially before and after daylight.
Tight lines,
Bill Hubbard
